IHRC Students Present Parallel Reports on Pakistan to the UN (March 2024)

On March 7, 2024, Chandra Ingram (JD 2025) and Marilynn Escún Yac (JD 2024), two of the students of the International Human Rights Center, and Megan Mars (JD 2023), a recent alumna of LLS, presented to the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights a civil society parallel report to Pakistan. The report was jointly prepared by the IHRC, Science for Democracy, and Aahung. The report focused on the protection and expansion of abortion rights in Pakistan, which comes under the purview of the Covenant (Articles 3, 12, and 15). Their presentation highlighted the criminalization and social stigma surrounding abortion practices, lack of training and education for health practitioners on legal abortions, and women’s inability to access contraceptives and safe abortions despite their right to sexual and reproductive freedom under the Covenant.
