With his career as a music agent flourishing, Jules Fieri ’25 saw LMU Loyola Law School’s Master of Science in Legal Studies (MLS) program as the prelude to hanging his own shingle.
In his current gig as an agent at Spin Artists Agency, Fieri learned about the MLS program from a former agency colleague who is in Loyola’s Hybrid JD Evening program. He told Fieri that Loyola also offered an accelerated master’s degree geared toward professionals who want to gain legal expertise but don’t need a JD.
“It sounded like a great option for me because I never really wanted to be an attorney, but I want to own my own business one day,” Fieri said. “I'm a music agent, so I also want to be able to advise my clients on the legal side of what I do. I deal with contracts every day, but I couldn't fully understand everything I was doing.”
He’s not the only Fieri who understands higher education is a recipe for showbiz success. His uncle, Food Network star and restaurateur Guy Fieri, has spoken about the importance of graduate education.
Fieri completed his coursework mostly in the evenings so he could continue working full time. His favorite course was his introductory legal writing class, which provided one-on-one support in an MLS-only environment (most courses are taken alongside JD students).
“It helped us get the attention we needed, and it also gave me a good basis and background of everything I needed,” he said. He also enjoyed his courses focused on sports law and the First Amendment and is considering returning to take a music law course.
Fieri was impressed by Loyola’s alumni network and the panels and other networking events Loyola offers to students. For anyone interested in ascending the ranks of management, publishing, or entertainment, he believes the MLS program can get them to the next level in their career.
“I recommend this program for people who are similar to my position: who don't necessarily want to become an attorney, but can benefit from being able to speak the language and understand the law around their career specialty,” Fieri said.
The MLS program equips both recent graduates and working professionals with the legal knowledge and analytical skills to take the next step in their education or their careers. The fall 2025 application deadline is July 15. Apply now!
