FAQs for Commencement 2020

When will the in-person commencement ceremony be scheduled for the Class of 2020?

The university is currently exploring alternative dates for the May 2020 ceremonies. Public health guidelines will determine the best time to schedule the ceremonies. Graduates and their families will receive adequate notice of the scheduled date so they are able to plan for the event.

What will be my degree conferral date?

Your degree will still be conferred when you have completed all requirements to be eligible to graduate. Please check with the Office of the Registrar, as you would have done to confirm that you have met graduation requirements. Conferral dates are as follows:

  • Spring: May 14, 2020
  • Summer: July 23, 2020
  • Fall: December 16, 2020

Will there be any celebration in May?

The law school is planning a virtual celebration on May 17, 2020.  This celebration will not replace the traditional in-person Commencement Ceremony. Planning is currently underway for the virtual celebration. Details will be shared at www.lls.edu/celebration. Please check periodically for updates We will be celebrating on social media using the hashtag #LLS20 and encouraging graduates to follow suit.

Will there be an opportunity to take class photos?

Class photos will be part of the in-person commencement ceremony. Details will be circulated when known.

What if I want to schedule a session with a private photographer?

Graduates will have an opportunity to take individual portraits, if they wish to do so, the week prior to the rescheduled commencement ceremony. Regalia will be available a week before the rescheduled commencement ceremony.

Should I order my cap and gown now?

It is not necessary to order your regalia now. There will be another opportunity to do so once the rescheduled commencement date has been determined. If you already placed your order, it will be kept on file by Herff Jones.

I pre-ordered a diploma frame online through the Herff Jones website to pick up at the bookstore, but the store is now closed. How do I get my frame?

Framing Success, a subsidiary of Herff Jones, will be shipping all diploma frame orders received on the Herff Jones website at no additional charge to you. You should expect to receive an email or phone call from them in the next couple of weeks to confirm your current shipping address. If you do not hear from them, please provide your shipping address by visiting herffjones.com/frameshomeship.

I ordered announcements online through the Herff Jones website and they have the original commencement date on them. What should I do?

Announcements are intended to be an acknowledgement of student achievement, not an invitation to the commencement ceremony. Announcements will include the Class of 2020 but no reference to a date/time/place.

When will I receive my diploma?

Diplomas will be mailed to spring graduates beginning in late July.
