
Jennifer S. Fan, the Therese Maynard Chair in Business Law and Professor of Law, was appointed LMU Loyola Law School’s Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs in 2025, bringing with her a strong record of academic leadership, institutional service, and nationally recognized scholarship in corporate law and governance. She also holds a courtesy appointment of affiliate professor at the LMU College of Business Administration. A respected scholar and seasoned academic leader, Professor Fan brings a deep commitment to faculty excellence, institutional growth, and innovation in legal education.
As Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs, Professor Fan oversees faculty development and governance, and advances strategic initiatives that foster a vibrant academic community. She is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive and collaborative environment that empowers faculty to thrive in their teaching, service, and scholarship.
Prior to joining LMU Loyola Law School, Professor Fan held multiple leadership positions at the University of Washington School of Law, including Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development, Faculty Director of the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, and Faculty Advisor for the Law, Business, and Entrepreneurship track. In these roles, she led efforts to expand interdisciplinary programming, secure research and programmatic funding, and enhance experiential learning opportunities. She also played a key role in supporting faculty scholarship and mentoring across ranks.
An authority in corporate law and governance, Professor Fan’s scholarship has been published in leading journals such as the Harvard Business Law Review, Harvard Journal of Law and Technology, Boston College Law Review, and Columbia Business Law Review.
A Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, Professor Fan has been recognized for her teaching and service, including receiving the Philip A. Trautman Professor of the Year Award. She has also secured multi-year grants from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Herbert B. Jones Foundation to support under-resourced entrepreneurs.
Professor Fan earned her A.B. with distinction in Political Science from Stanford University and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She practiced law at global firms in New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle, and has held leadership roles in public interest law and philanthropy.
