Alumni Borrowing Privileges

LLS Alumni have complimentary borrowing privileges from the William M. Rains Library.  To initiate borrowing privileges, alumni need to create a library account by submitting an application for a library card.  A current photo ID and graduation year is required to validate the application. Accounts are active for 2 years from date of application and must be renewed for continued borrowing privileges.

Loan periods are as follows and only apply to Circulating library materials (loose-leafs, multi-volume, microform, periodical and reference sets do not Circulate):

Books

  • Checkout period: 2 weeks
  • Number of renewals allowed: 1 
  • Renewal period: 2 weeks
  • Overdue fine: no daily fines, however account will be blocked
  • Item replacement fee: Actual item cost + $25.00 processing fee

Media

  • Checkout period: 2 days
  • Number of renewals allowed: 1
  • Renewal period: 2 days
  • Overdue fine: no daily fines, however account will be blocked
  • Item replacement fee: Actual item cost + $25.00 processing fee

Reserve material

  • Checkout period: 2 hours in-library use
  • Number of renewals allowed: 0
  • Overdue fine: no daily fines, however account will be blocked
  • Item replacement fee: Actual item cost + $25.00 processing fee

Checkout Limits

Total number of items checked out at any one time is three (3).  

Equipment

Alumni are not eligible to checkout equipment, wellness or convenience items except for headphones.

Holds/Recalls

Alumni are not eligible to request holds or recalls.  All items checked out are subject to recalls following the library's recall policy.

Renewals/Returns

Materials may be renewed by phone, in-person or online within limit (see above), unless the item has been recalled.   Materials must be returned to the Circulation Desk.  

Interlibrary Loan

Alumni do not have borrowing privileges through the Interlibrary Loan Department.

E-Resources

Alumni have on-campus access to IP-authenticated electronic resources that the Rains library licenses (including Hein Online, EBSCO, ProQuest, VitalLaw and RIA Checkpoint).  Alumni do not have access to password protected databases (such as Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, etc. - with some exceptions for recent graduates). E-resources accessible to alumni on-campus is available on the Research Databases page, or by searching the Library catalog.
