The first of its kind on the West Coast, this Concentration draws on Loyola’s traditional strengths in areas like technology, criminal justice, privacy, and IP law.

Every company, government agency, and law firm now depends on data, and lawyers who understand how to protect it are in high demand around the world. Loyola Law School launched the first cybersecurity and data privacy specialization of its kind on the West Coast, and it draws on the school's long-standing strengths in technology, intellectual property, privacy, and criminal law.

At the core of the specialization are two practice-oriented courses, Cyber & Risk Management & Incident Response, and Cybersecurity & Regulatory Compliance. In them, you learn how organizations prepare for data breaches, respond when they happen, and meet their legal obligations. You then choose electives that reflect where the field is heading, such as Technology & Privacy, California Privacy and Data Security Law, and Foundational AI: Technology, Risk and Governance. California has some of the most demanding privacy laws in the United States, and studying them in Los Angeles gives you expertise that companies everywhere need.

You learn from professors and practitioners with experience in technology companies, cybercrime enforcement, and regulatory compliance. You also study in Los Angeles, home to Silicon Beach, a thriving community of technology startups, and to major entertainment, aerospace, and financial companies that manage enormous amounts of sensitive data.

This specialization is a strong fit if you want to advise companies on privacy and cybersecurity compliance, work in-house at a technology or data-driven business, serve in a regulatory or law enforcement agency, or bring expertise in U.S. data protection and AI governance to your practice at home. You graduate ready to help clients navigate one of the fastest-growing areas of law.
