Michelle Tabb ’18, part-time student in the Master of Science in Legal Studies (MLS) program

With a lifelong passion for the law, Michelle Tabb ’18 was searching for a master’s program that would give her the specialized legal, academic, ethical and practical education to excel. She found that Loyola Law School offers this and more in its Master of Science in Legal Studies (MLS) program.

Tabb is taking classes part-time in the evenings to complete her MLS degree in two years. Her first semester, which began in August 2016, included Criminal Law and Law and Process: Privacy Torts.  “I know the technical functions,” she said. “Now, I’m learning how to interpret the law, and it’s very eye-opening.”

She and the other MLS students take Law School classes side-by-side with JD students. “I’m pleased about that,” she said. “I want to have the same training and knowledge” as the legal professionals.

As an active member in the legal community through the Los Angeles Paralegal Association (LAPA) and the National Association of Paralegals (NALA), she maintains her continuing legal education through ABA-approved legal seminars and volunteers in the legal community. She was recognized for this dedication recently with two awards: The National Association of Paralegals Affiliate’s Award (2015) and the Los Angeles Paralegal Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2016).

As a lifelong learner, Tabb states that “I have an insatiable desire to add to my knowledge reservoir, continually challenging myself academically, and to continue to develop and maintain extraordinary analytical and critical thinking skills.” She is convinced that Loyola’s MLS program combines the intellectually discipline-specific, advanced coursework that will be most beneficial for her success.
