SURVIVOR ENGAGEMENT

TELLING YOUR STORY ON YOUR TERMS

At the heart of the anti-trafficking movement are survivor leaders, individuals who have turned their lived experiences into powerful advocacy, leadership, and service for others.

If you are a survivor of trafficking and would like support in writing your own bio, whether for advocacy, public speaking, or professional leadership, we're ready to support you in whatever way feels right for you.

Our team of trained law students will work with you one on one to help craft your bio or impact statement. You choose what to share, what to leave out, and how your story is told. Based on your goals, we will support you in shaping your story in your own voice and at your own pace.

Support may include writing prompts, sample bios, and space to reflect and revise. Some participants come to us with a few bullet points or ideas and leave with a polished bio they can use for speaking engagements, job opportunities, or advocacy work. We will work with you to identify your goals and tailor our guidance accordingly.

What This Can Look Like

Below are examples of the types of bios and impact statements we can help you create. These are illustrative and based on past work, but do not include identifying information.

Advocacy Bio (Short)
“Survivor leader and advocate with lived experience in human trafficking. Currently works to inform policy and improve access to services for impacted communities. Has contributed to community based initiatives and public awareness efforts.”

Professional Bio (Expanded)
“Advocate and consultant with lived experience in human trafficking, specializing in survivor centered policy and program development. Has collaborated with legal, public health, and community based organizations to expand access to compensation and services. Brings a trauma informed, culturally responsive lens to all work.”

Impact Statement (Policy Focused)
“My experience navigating systems after trafficking has shaped my commitment to ensuring survivors have access to financial stability and support. I now contribute to efforts that improve policies around victim compensation and reduce barriers for others.”

Speaker Introduction Bio
“Survivor leader, speaker, and advocate who brings lived experience and systems expertise to conversations on trafficking, exploitation, and recovery. Has participated in community panels and policy discussions focused on survivor centered solutions.”

All examples are adaptable, and we will never use your story as an example without your explicit consent.
