STUDENT ADVOCACY FOR FIFA AND LA28 HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTIONS
Supporting Stronger Protections Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games
SJI students supported advocacy around human rights protections for major sporting events. Working with SJI and our partners, they helped push FIFA and LA28 to develop and publicly share human rights plans.
Their work also supported calls for stronger protections against human trafficking and labor exploitation, along with greater transparency and accountability.
SJI Student Advocate Featured in the Los Angeles Times
SJI student advocate Lesly Ayala was quoted in the Los Angeles Times discussing concerns with LA28’s Human Rights Strategy. Ayala highlighted the plan’s reliance on existing systems and the need for greater investment in programs and services that protect communities during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
