Advocating for Protections in Disaster Response
During the 2024–2025 academic year, the Student Advocates supported the Sunita Jain Anti-Trafficking Initiative’s efforts to advance a motion before the City and County of Los Angeles to prevent human trafficking in the wake of natural disasters. As part of their practicum, the Advocates provided public comment at both City and County meetings, amplifying the call for survivor-centered disaster response. Their advocacy contributed to broader efforts to ensure that Los Angeles’ disaster recovery planning includes safeguards against trafficking and recognizes the unique vulnerabilities of displaced and undocumented populations.
