LMU Loyola Law School Hosts Commencement for Classes of 2020 and 2021 at L.A.'s SoFi Stadium
Award-winning actor Viola Davis urged graduates of LMU Loyola Law School to live bravely while Dean Michael Waterstone encouraged them to help make the world a better place at a commencement ceremony on Saturday, July 31, at SoFi Stadium. (Watch Highlights of the celebration here.)
“Will you feel you are at war for living your truth? Yup,” Davis told the audience of graduates from Loyola Marymount University's Classes of 2020 and 2021, their guests and university faculty and staff members. Graduates hailed from all seven LMU colleges, including Loyola Law School. “Will you at various times feel like you’re standing alone? Yup. Will you be ostracized? Um, maybe. But the reward is that you will feel alive.” (Watch Viola Davis’ full keynote address here.)
“We've waited a long time for this moment, and I couldn't be happier to see all of our Loyola Law School grads here today,” said Dean Waterstone in his address. “The world needs your passion, energy, talent and idealism. Please go make the world a better place.” (Watch a recording of the entire celebration's live-stream here.)
About 450 law school graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021 registered for the SoFi Stadium commencement exercises. The event made good on an administration promise that both classes would have an in-person celebration after pandemic conditions prompted prior graduation celebrations to be held virtually. A virtual degree conferral was held on Sunday, May 16 for the class of 2021, with a similar event for the class of 2020 held a year prior. (View photo gallery here.)
