The Honorable Richard P. Byrne

During over 20 years as a judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Judge Byrne handled all types of cases, including civil, family law, adoptions, probate, law & motion, discovery, writs & receivers, juvenile, criminal and mental health.  His service included two years and nine months as Presiding Judge of the Superior Court, one year and three months as Assistant Presiding Judge (Department One), one year as Supervising Judge of the Probate Department (Department 11), and three years as Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court.  He supervised the planning, development and initial implementation of the Trial Court Delay Reduction Program (Fast Track) in Central Civil in 1987 & 1988.  Judge Byrne was assigned by the Chief Justice to serve on the California Court of Appeal in 1982. 

Judge Byrne was in general civil practice from 1960 until appointment to the Superior Court in 1972, with emphasis on litigation and probate.  He was admitted to practice in California state and federal courts and the United States Supreme Court (1971).
