Public Interest Law Foundation
Founded in 1993, Loyola Law School's Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) is a non-partisan, student-run organization invested in fostering the careers of students dedicated to providing assistance to those traditionally underrepresented in the legal system.
PILF offers stipends to current students who dedicate their summer to public interest legal work - which generally goes unpaid - through its Summer Stipend Award Program. The Summer Stipend Award Program is funded almost entirely through PILF's Annual Auction Night.
Summer Stipend Award Program
Each summer, PILF provides critical funding to law students who hope to use their legal eduation to help others through the Summer Stipend Award Program. Stipends support full-time and part-time summer positions at a variety of nonprofit agencies both local and abroud including:
- AIDS Project Los Angeles
- The Alliance for Children's Rights
- Appalachian Legal Research & Defense Fund
- Bet Tzedek
- Black Law Institute
- The Center for Human Rights & Constitutional Law
- Dependency Court Legal Services
- International Law Center for Human, Economic, and Environmental Defense (Costa Rica)
- Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center

Applications for the Summer Stipend Award Program are available in the spring. Please email PILF at PILF@lls.edu for more information. Those interested in making an outright gift to PILF's Summer Stipend Award Program cand do so at lls.edu/give.
PILF's Annual Auction Night
As the needs for public service legal work increase, PILF wants to meet the growing demand by increasing the number of Summer Stipends it awards. Revenue from PILF’s Annual Auction Night—which has helped fund hundreds of students for over 25 years—makes momentum like this possible.
Alumni, faculty, students, family and friends are all encouraged to attend Loyola’s signature Public Service fundraising event. Registration will open in the summer.
If you would like to contribute an item or experience to the next PILF Auction or serve on the Annual Auction Night Planning Committee, please contact Grant Hoover at (213) 736-8153 or Grant.Hoover@lls.edu.
