Judicial Field Placements
Judicial field placements involve working in the chambers of a state or federal judge in exchange for unit credit at Loyola. Externs perform such tasks as file evaluation, legal research, or preparation of memoranda. Judicial externships are graded “pass” or “fail.”
Public Interest Field Placements
Loyola students pursuing Public Interest may select from among many approved pro bono organizations to find the right opportunity for them.
Field Placement Off-Campus Application Deadline Dates
All application materials must be submitted online to the Field Placements Department at least 4 weeks in advance of the beginning of the term in which the student seeks to extern.

Private Entity Field Placements
Private Entity Field Placements are an opportunity for students to work in a private law firm or office to experience the day-to-day operations of the firm or office and observe lawyers in practice. The field placements are available during the academic year. Private Field Placement is also offered during Summer Session, although all students participating in the Summer Session have to pay for the units on a per-unit basis.
