Johnathan Ortiz
Workers’ Rights Clinic
As a student in the Workers’ Rights Clinic, Johnathan Ortiz stood out for his commitment to low-wage and immigrant workers, as well as marginalized communities in Los Angeles. During his time in the legal clinic, he demonstrated not only exceptional legal skills but also an innate ability to connect with clients on a deeply human level. His compassion was evident in every case he handled, as he consistently went above and beyond to ensure that each individual felt heard, respected, and supported. His clients faced issues of wage theft, retaliation, discrimination, misclassification, and harassment, all presenting stressful and complex legal challenges that he handled with flexibility and understanding while remaining sensitive to the diverse backgrounds and struggles of his clients.
His commitment to justice and equity was woven into every aspect of his work, making him a true advocate for those who needed it most. Johnathan’s leadership in the clinic left a lasting impact on his professors as well as the vulnerable communities he served, proving that his commitment to social justice to be as strong as his legal skills. His work at the clinic embodied the values that the law school exhorts all its students and faculty to live out in their lives and work.
