Hannah Marquis, Collateral Consequences of Conviction Justice Project

Hannah Marquis is the Outstanding Clinical Student for the Collateral Consequences of Conviction Justice Project (CCCJP) for the 2024-25 year. Hannah, a May 2025 graduate, exemplifies the CCCJP student with excellent academic credentials, complementary work experiences for clinical work, and a passion to give back to the community. Post-bar, Hannah will be an associate in the general litigation department for O’Melveny & Myers.

Hannah enrolled in CCCJP for the Fall 2024 semester and brought with her the pre-law school volunteer experience she had with a nonprofit that provided post-conviction relief to formerly incarcerated individuals. Hannah always exhibited a compassionate approach with her clients. For one client, Hannah prepared a Certificate of Rehabilitation that included an extensive questionnaire requiring multiple interviews with her client to complete it. Hannah assisted the client in writing a personal statement about her client’s transformation and organized multiple documents and letters that were filed as attachments to the petition. The court granted the petition due to Hannah’s outstanding work that focused on how deserving the client was to receive the relief.

Hannah also prepared a Petition for Dismissal (expungement petition) for a client who was incarcerated at the age of 14 for multiple robberies and sentenced as an adult. Hannah’s preparation of a lengthy social history for his petition was excellent. Her interview skills again enabled her to gather information from him regarding his involvement in the foster care system and life changes her client has made since his release from prison. Hannah not only was an asset to her clients and but also to CCCJP.
