Karla Ek-Elhadidy, Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution

As a 4E student, Karla gracefully balances work (as a Spanish-English educator with LAUSD who teaches adult immigrants English as a second language), family, school, and clinical responsibilities. Karla stood out in our clinic on day one and quickly became a model to fellow students, as well as made significant contributions not only to Loyola Law School but to our greater community as well. Karla has participated in all three of LCCR’s clinics: the Conciliation and Mediation Assistance Clinic, where she helped clients reach agreements to stay housed, avoid wage garnishment and litigation; the Dependency Court Mediation Assistance Clinic, where she successfully helped families work through often painful familial disputes and reach agreements regarding physical and legal custody, and holiday schedules; and the Collaborative Family Law Mediation Clinic, where she assisted under-represented couples in navigating divorce through a collaborative team approach. Karla also volunteered with Just The Beginning Summer Institute, a high-school-to-law-school pipeline program dedicated to students of color interested in pursuing careers in law, hosted by LCCR at Loyola Law School. With her open and friendly demeanor, Karla easily develops and fosters relationships with her fellow LCCR students, volunteers, and staff. She embodies Loyola Law School’s mission: she demonstrates leadership skills, commitment to public service, and social justice.
