Rebecca Delfino discusses the importance of practical skills training in law school.

The Field Placement Program offers students a wide range of opportunities to experience the actual operation of legal institutions, to explore the nature of the attorney-client relationship and to refine the lawyering skills they will use as future attorneys under the supervision of an experienced lawyer or judge.

Field placements expose students to particular areas of practice through work in specialized offices, including the judiciary, public interest organizations, government offices and a limited number of private firms and corporations. As externs, students more fully develop their legal research and writing skills, interact with clients and develop practical skills in oral advocacy and courtroom procedure.

When is the deadline to apply for field placements?

Students should apply by creating an experience on 12twenty's Experiential Learning tab.

Spring 2023 semester deadline date to submit an application to the Field Placements Department: December 23, 2022. No application will be reviewed or accepted after this date for the semester.

Summer 2023 semester deadline date to submit an application to the Field Placements Department: May 5, 2023. No application will be reviewed or accepted after this date for the Summer.
