Private Field Placements
Information and Application Process
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ANTICIPATE EXTERNING WITH A GOVERNMENT ENTITY/NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, PLEASE GO TO LOYOLA LAW SCHOOL'S PRIVATE FIELD PLACEMENT DEPARTMENT.
What is a private field placement?
It is an opportunity for students to work in a private law firm or office to experience the day-to-day operations of the firm or office and observe lawyers in practice. The private field placements are available during the academic year and during the summer session, although all students participating in the summer session have to pay for the units on a per-unit basis.
How do students identify a private field placement?
1. A student interested in a Private Field Placement can identify both the law firm or office and an attorney at the firm or office who is willing to serve as a supervisor. The supervising attorney must agree to meet all law school requirements for the Private Field Placement including providing assignments and feedback, signing timesheets, assisting the student in identifying externship goals, and completing an evaluation. All Private Field Placements must be approved in advance by Adjunct Professor Grace Nguyen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For information regarding the application process please go to: Private Field Placement Application and Contact Sheet
2. A student may apply to firms that have submitted applications requesting a student extern. Please see this link:
3. If a student receives an offer from one of the firm's listed on this website, the student can then submit the private placement application.
