Loyola’s Project for the Innocent hears from wrongfully convicted man & judge who released him
On March 12, Professor Levenson's Project for the Innocent class listened to an inspiring story from Federal District Court Judge J. Spencer Letts (bottom center) and former inmate Michael Banyard (bottom left).
Michael Banyard was sentenced to 25 years to life, yet fiercely maintained his innocence. Once Professor Laurie Levenson heard his story, she stepped in to advocate on Banyard's behalf, and together, they convinced Federal District Court Judge J. Spencer Letts to vacate the conviction. Since then, Banyard and Judge Letts have developed a close friendship and continue to inspire the legal community with their story about the power of a second chance.
