Prof. Nockleby discusses $15 million settlement in fatal crash
Professor John Nockleby explained in the Riverside Press-Enterprise the rationale behind the state's $15 million with the family of a man killed by a state truck.
“It may sound like a lot of money, but it may well be justified by the evidence,” Nockleby said. “It strikes me as the Department of Forestry must have determined that the liability was clear.”
“They’ve lost their primary economic support,” Nockleby continued. “We give them the economic support they could have expected to have received during the course of their lives.
“The other major thing is that they would have gotten is all the emotional support, the fatherly care. How much is that worth? That’s hard to calculate. But there is some value, and they are entitled to receive that as well.”
