Prof. Aprill cited in Senate report on tax-exemption policy
Professor Ellen Aprill's scholarship and commentary were cited in a U.S. Senate Committee on Finance report, "Tax-Exempt Organizations and Charitable Giving." The section "Political Activity and Lobbying of Tax-Exempts" cites two of Aprill's pieces:
- “Regulating the Political Speech of Non Charitable Exempt Organizations After Citizens United,” Election Law Journal, 2011
- “Create a New Category,” Room for Debate, New York Times, May 15, 2013
The report described tax-reform options suggested by tax policy experts and legislators. Aprill, the John E. Anderson professor of tax law, is one of the country's foremost experts on tax-exempt policy. She is the founding organizer of the Western Conference on Tax Exempt Organizations and a onetime staff member of the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
