Hon. John V. Meigs '78
Judge, Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles
The Hon. John V. Meigs '78 is an American hero, though you'll never get him to admit it. Meigs is currently a judge in Inglewood, but that is just his most recent achievement. Meigs served in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star and an Army Commendation. Meigs also received the Vietnamese Police Honor Medal for his work with them during the war. After returning home, he took on his next challenge-the night program at Loyola while working full time.
After law school, Meigs worked as a deputy public defender and in private practice until 1989 when he was elected as a court commissioner in Inglewood . From 1989 - 2000, Meigs remained in Inglewood, and he became a Superior Court judge. Meigs' heroism can be seen as well in his dedication to his children and to the community: he serves on school PTAs and advisory councils and he sits on both the Centinela Valley and Inglewood YMCA Boards.
Meigs is "particularly proud of what Loyola has become."
