Lena N. Bacani joined the intellectual property team at Fox Rothschild LLP in Los Angeles as counsel; Bacani was a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin, where she advised the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Marc S. Carlson, a civil litigator, departed Jones Day to establish a solo business litigation practice, The Carlson Law Firm, in Irvine, CA.
2001
Talya Z. Friedman was promoted to partner with Jackson Lewis LLP in Los Angeles, CA; Friedman’s practice concentrates on state and federal employment litigation.
Megan N. Gess now practices at Sheppard Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the Costa Mesa, CA corporate practice group; Gess was with O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
Marc Y. Lazo changed gears and has left private practice to join BP Law Group LLP as managing partner with the Newport Beach, CA office.
Jeffrey A. Sklar co-founded the corporate and real estate transactional law firm Sklar Kirsh LLP in Los Angeles, and chairs the firm’s real estate practice; additionally, Sklar was named a 2013 Rising Star in Southern California Super Lawyers.
Mark H. Weintraub was named assistant vice president and claims counsel for Lockton Companies Inc. in Atlanta, GA; Weintraub formerly practiced with Jones Day in Los Angeles and in Atlanta, GA.
2002
Terrance J. Evans, partner with the Duane Morris law firm in San Francisco, CA, was named president of the Leadership Development Committee for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers—Northern California chapter; in his role Evans is facilitating mentoring, continuing education and networking programs for young lawyers.
Patrick R. Krill, in his work as the assistant director of the legal professionals program for Hazelden in Center City, MN, leads the program’s cutting-edge alcohol and drug treatment program specifically aimed at reducing the addiction rate in the legal profession; Krill also co-authored a book about addiction in the legal profession slated for publication this year.
Jeffrey N. Labovitch joined the San Diego and Los Angeles, CA and the Las Vegas, NV offices of Gordon & Rees LLP as a partner in the insurance coverage, commercial litigation and professional liability practice groups.
Kenneth J. Price was selected by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as a “Top 100 Lawyer” in California; a shareholder with Baker Manock & Jensen, PC, Price’s practice includes public agency law, land use, corporate, real estate and governmental relations.
Carmen D. Snuggs was promoted to deputy attorney general IV with the State of California Department of Justice and received an attorney’s general award for the work she and a team of attorneys performed on Douglas v. Independent Living Center of Southern California, Inc.
2003
Lee A. Cirsch of The Lanier Law Firm earned a spot in The National Trial Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” listing for California; Cirsch represents clients in consumer and commercial litigation.
Pankit J. Doshi, an associate with Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP in San Francisco, CA, served as president of President Barack Obama’s National Platform Committee last fall during the election.
Kerry C. Fowler was elected to partnership with Jones Day and specializes in complex civil litigation with the Los Angeles office. Randolph E. Perry was promoted to real estate law partner with the Los Angeles office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
Richard J. Zuromski, Jr. joined Carroll, Burdick & McDonough LLP as partner in its San Francisco, CA office; focusing on defending a variety of class action matters, Zuromski joins the firm after nearly a decade at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Associates.
2004
Michael A. Gatto of the 43rd District received the Assembly Member of the Year Award from the Consumer Attorneys of California at its annual convention; Gatto also received the Legislator of the Year Award from The Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas.
Billie (Salinas) Hausburg now practices with Glynn & Finley LLP in Walnut Creek, CA as of counsel; Hausburg has been named to the list of Super Lawyers Rising Stars.
Jamal L. Tooson departed from the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office to join the County of Los Angeles Alternate Public Defender’s Office; earlier in his career, Tooson was director of West Coast operations for All Pro Sports.
2005
Ryan P. Deane was promoted to partner with Reback, McAndrews, Kjar, Warford, Stockalper & Moore, LLP.
Kristen J. Nesbit, employment litigator, moved to Fisher & Phillips LLP from Vanderford & Ruiz LLP; Nesbit is an associate with the Los Angeles, CA office.
Seth A. Trejo accepted the position of general counsel with Telecom Lease Advisors LLC in Marina del Rey, CA.
2006
Sasha Danna was promoted to litigation partner with Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Los Angeles; Danna focuses on complex commercial disputes.
David Gharakhanian, Jr. and classmate Manee Pazargad joined forces three years ago to establish their own civil litigation firm, GP Law Group, A Professional Corp. in Beverly Hills, CA, handling business and employment law, real estate litigation, and personal injury matters and business transactional matters.
Janet (Rappoport) Gusdorff was named a Rising Star in 2013 Southern California Super Lawyers; Gusdorff is an associate with Pine & Pine in Sherman Oaks, CA.
Jason Pyrz practices at Meltzer Purtill & Stelle LLC as an associate in the litigation and dispute resolution practice.
John L. Wong is a newly elected member of the board of directors for the San Gabriel County Water District.
2007
Collin D. Cook made the move from Lanak & Hanna, P.C. to Fisher & Phillips LLP in Irvine, CA; Cook is an associate specializing in labor and employment law.
Andrew D. Copans (LLM) was named partner with McDermott Will & Emery in Los Angeles and is a member of the firm’s private client practice group.
Jennifer A. Grady founded The Grady Firm, P.C., which caters to business owners in the areas of corporate and employment law transactions and litigation.
Gregory B. Phillips, who joined Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP upon graduation from law school, was promoted to partner; Phillips counsels clients on domestic and international trademark matters.
2008
Kristy Grant departed Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP to become the director of compliance in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for London, U.K.-based Carlson Wagonlit Travel, which specializes in business management travel.
2009
Marjon (Michelle) Raji departed from Snell & Wilmer L.L.P to join the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as deputy district attorney.
Mark Sweet is the new chief operating officer at WebShark360, an attorney marketing service; additionally, last year Sweet was a nominee for the 2012 Orange County Business Journal’s General Counsel of the Year Award while he was working as chief operating officer at 29 Prime, a search engine marketing company.
