|SHOW YOUR LOYOLA SPIRIT THROUGH YOUR SERVICE
A Message from Dean Victor Gold:
We continue the celebration of 50 Years at Albany by taking time this month, National Volunteer Appreciation Month, to thank and recognize the members of our Loyola community who give their time and talent in service to others.
Loyola Law School's long-standing commitment to public interest law remains stronger than ever. In 1997, Loyola was the first ABA- accredited school in California to enact a mandatory pro bono service requirement. Since then, Loyola students have donated nearly 1 million hours. This is truly a testament to the Law School’s mission of public service.
PILF Honors Blanca A. Bañuelos '03
and George Fatheree '07
Each year, the Law School honors two alumni for their dedication and service through public interest law and pro bono work. This year Blanca A. Bañuelos '03 is being honored with the Public Interest Award. Blanca is the Regional Director of Advocacy for California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. where she represents farm workers and dairy workers in wage and hour, wrongful termination and sexual harassment cases.
The Pro Bono Award is presented to George Fatheree '07, an Associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. George has worked on various pro bono projects including securing reparations for survivors of the Holocaust and advising school districts on education reform issues.
I encourage you to read more about Blanca and George's service to others and join us in publically recognizing them at the Honor Brunch during the 50th Anniversary Weekend Celebration.
Help Us Reach 50,000 Pro Bono Hours
And now it's time for you to join in! For Loyola's 50 Years at Albany, we have set a Loyola goal of alumni, students, faculty and staff collectively donating 50,000 hours of pro bono work and community service. Help us reach our goal by logging your service hours on our website.
Don't forget to mark your calendar for the 50th Anniversary Weekend Celebration and be sure to check the website often for updates about the events and activities. I look forward to seeing you at the Grand Reunion and celebrating as we reach our goal of donating 50,000 service hours.
