Date Description
January 26, 2008 VITA Training Class.  VITA volunteers must attend this mandatory training class.
January 29, 2008 Reception at USC Tax Institute.  Tax LLM students will attend a reception co-sponsored by Loyola's Tax LLM Program at the USC Tax Institute.
February 1 - 28, 2008 Individual Career Planning Meetings with Professor Kowal.  Professor Kowal will meet one-on-one with Tax LLM students to assist with job searches.
February 4, 2008 "What You Wish You Would Have Known in Your First Year as a Tax Lawyer -- Tips for Successful Transition to Practice."  Recent alumni of the program will discuss their experiences as new tax lawyers and offer current students advice on succeeding in practice.  This event will be sponsored by the Tax Law Society.  
February 10, 2008 Brunch at Professor Kowal's Home. Students will join Tax LLM faculty for an informal brunch.  
February 11 - April 15, 2008 VITA Service.  Interested students will assist clients with tax return preparation in the areas of individual, business and corporate tax returns and provide EITC outreach services in the community.  For more information, please visit http://intranet.lls.edu/externships/vita/index.html.
February 11, 2008 Tax Court Trial in LA. Adjunct Professor Robbins will accompany Tax LLM students to observe a Tax Court trial at the federal courthouse in downtown LA.  
February 12, 2008 Reception for Judge Wherry with LACBA and Beverly Hills Bar Association Tax Sections. US Tax Court Judge Wherry will visit Loyola to speak to students, faculty and members of the local tax bar about the Tax Court.   
March 5, 2008 Starting Your Own Tax Practice. Panelists will offer advice to students on setting up an office, attracting clients and other tips for tax practice as a solo practitioner.  This event will be sponsored by the Tax Law Society.
March 6, 2008 Tax Incentives and the Judicial Role in Interstate Trade.  Brian Galle, Assistant Professor of Law at Florida State University College of Law, will present his paper at a law school faculty workshop.
March 5, 12, 26, 2008 A Business Approach to Tax Accounting. Ken Simon, Vice President of Worldwide Taxation for Herbalife International, and his colleague John Latini will discuss the intersection of tax and financial accounting, handling uncertain tax positions on tax returns, and client business goals that often affect tax accounting.
May 16, 2008 Tax LLM Commencement Luncheon.  Nathan Hochman, Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice, will be the keynote speaker (tentatively).
May 18, 2008 Loyola Law School Commencement.   Tax LLM students will participate in the law school's commencement exercises.
