Costa Rica Summer Program in Ciudad Colòn

Program Costs

Tuition, Fees & Housing Costs

Tuition for the Costa Rica Program is $3,400, plus a $100 student activity fee. The program cost includes tuition, fees, housing, meals, course materials, shuttle to/from UPEACE & Ciudad Colòn, field trips and the final fiesta. The $550 deposit, which must accompany the admission application, will be credited toward the cost of tuition.

Room & Board Information

Housing will be provided with a host family near the campus in Ciudad Colón and will include breakfast and dinner. Lunch at the UPeace cafeteria is also included. The homes will be modest and clean. Rooms will be equipped with a desk and lamp for studying. Students who are vegetarians or have other special dietary needs should note this on the housing application.

Living with a host family often turns out to be one of the most rewarding and memorable parts of a program like this.  Nearly all students in previous programs were very pleased with their host family housing.  Students will have a superb chance to practice their Spanish, or begin learning it.  (If you do not speak Spanish, bring a phrase book to help you through critical moments.)  It is an excellent way tol absorb more about local customs and make some fine Costa Rican friends.

Alternate Housing Information

Living with a host family is strongly recommended but not required. Students who choose e to make theirown housing arrangements, will be reimbursed $600 for room and board expenses. Please note that individual students are personally responsible for all arrangements, cancellations, early departures etc.

Students who decide not to live with a host family may wish to consider the one of the following “posadas” (lodges) in Ciudad Colòn:

It may be possible to obtain a lower rate by (1) mentioning the program and UPEACE when making reservations, and/or (2) by paying in cash upon check out. Students should ask about these possibilities in advance.

Travel Costs

Travel arrangements (round-trip between the U.S. and Costa Rica) are the responsibility of the student and are not included in the program cost.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid in the form of the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan (GPLUS) or private loans may be available. Students may borrow loan funds up to the cost of attendance (COA). The COA is determined by the Office of Financial Aid and includes tuition and fees, as well as an allowance for room and board, books and supplies, transportation and personal expenses. Under no circumstance can financial aid exceed this cost of attendance.

Consortium Agreements

Non Loyola Law School (LLS) students wishing to obtain financial aid for program costs must do so through their home institution. Students should contact the Office of Financial Aid at their home institution to begin the consortium agreement process.
