Loyola, in fact, enrolls the greatest number of Hispanic students annually among the State of California’s ABA-accredited law schools. During the 2002-03 academic year -- on which the ranking is based -- the enrollment at Loyola was 1,351 law students, of which 148 were Hispanic (11 percent). The largest number of Hispanics to graduate from a California law school also come from Loyola; the law school awarded the juris doctor to 420 graduates in May 2003, 55 of whom were Hispanic. Dean David Burcham was quoted by the magazine as saying, “At Loyola Law School we are committed to attracting and retaining diverse and accomplished Hispanic students. Our Hispanic students enrich the educational climate while here, and when they leave Loyola they achieve remarkable success in every facet of the legal, business, and political world.” An active La Raza student organization, ever-increasing scholarship funding, and sponsorship of regional and national Hispanic Moot Court Competitions enrich the Hispanic student experience at Loyola. "Employers find our Latino graduates extraordinarily well prepared to practice law at the most sophisticated levels,” Graham Sherr, Assistant Dean for Career Services, stated in the article. “ They are frequently considered to be stars who also bring an exceptional cultural awareness and sensitivity that enriches the diversity of their workplaces." Accredited by the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools, Loyola Law School - Loyola Marymount University has the largest enrollment of law students in the Western United States. Students at Loyola are candidates for one of three degrees: the Master of Laws in Taxation, the Juris Doctor, or the Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration. |
