JD Program
International Students
To apply for admission, an applicant educated at an institution outside of the U.S. must have earned or expect to earn the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor's degree. In addition, all international applicants must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is NOT required.
Graduates of some foreign institutions are eligible to register for the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). To check eligibility, please visit LSAC's Web site or review the 2009-2010 LSAT & LSDAS Registration and Information Book. If you are not eligible for LSDAS, you must have your academic credentials evaluated by an appropriate service. We recommend that international applicants use an established foreign transcript evaluation service, such as World Education Services or the International Educational Research Foundation. Letters of recommendation may be mailed directly to the Office of Admissions.
For those foreign applicants eligible to register for the LSDAS service, you may utilize the new JD Credential Assembly Service (JD CAS) offered by LSAC. This service is included in the LSDAS subscription fee. A Foreign Credential Evaluation will be completed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), which will be incorporated into your LSDAS report. However, you are also free to use a third-party credential evaluation service, such as WES. If you need to submit a TOEFL score, you must contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and request that your TOEFL score be sent to LSAC. LSAC's TOEFL code for JD-CAS is 0058. Your score will be listed in the Foreign Credential Evaluation document that is included in your LSDAS law school report.
To use the JD CAS, log in to your online account and follow the instructions for registering for the service. Be sure to print out a Transcript Request form for each institution and send it promptly. More time is usually required to receive foreign transcripts.
