From 1968-73, Scott Wood taught at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco, serving as chair of the English Department during his tenure. While at law school, he was associate editor of the Southwestern University Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board. As a teacher, he has held positions as an instructor with the California Institute of Trial Advocacy at the University of Southern California; as a lecturer with the USC Institute of Safety and Systems Management; and as an adjunct professor at Southwestern University School of Law. As an attorney, he has held positions with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher (associate, 1976-83; of counsel, 1984-86); Sullivan, Walsh & Wood (partner); the Law Offices of Scott E. Wood (sole practitioner, 1992-94); and Nyznyk & Wood (partner, 1994-98). He joined the Loyola Law School faculty in the fall of 1998. In 2005, Professor Wood was honored with the Loyola Student Body's Excellence in Teaching Award.In 2008, he received the St. Thomas More Award from Loyola's Student Honor Society.
