After law school, Brian McKeever clerked for Magistrate Judge Jennifer T. Lum, US District Court Judge Audrey B. Collins, and Ninth Circuit Judge Ferdinand F. Fernandez. He practiced at Kirkland and Ellis and most recently as an appellate associate at Reed Smith. He taught for three years as an adjunct professor in USC's Legal Writing and Advocacy program.
