Professor Victor Gold was named 16th dean of Loyola Law School and a senior vice president of Loyola Marymount University in January 2009 after spending a year as interim dean. He has earned myriad accolades as a legal educator and administrator since he started teaching at Loyola in 1984. His tenure as associate dean for academic affairs from 2000-2005 saw an increased focus on Loyola’s national stature, a drive to recruit top-notch professors and an emphasis on faculty research. Most recently, Dean Gold earned an Excellence in Teaching Award from the graduating class of 2007.
Dean Gold is the author of six books on the Federal Rules of Evidence. He has also written numerous articles on evidence and advocacy law. He lectures on evidence and contracts law for students preparing to take the bar exam in California, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon. Widely considered one of the country’s top experts in evidence law, Professor Gold served as a CBS New legal analyst from 1994-97. He taught in Loyola's LLM program at the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2006. And he is a fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge University, England.
Prior to teaching at Loyola, Dean Gold was a tenured law professor at Arizona State University and an associate at Nossaman, Krueger & Marsh, where he declined an offer to become partner to pursue his teaching career. He graduated Order of the Coif from UCLA School of Law, where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review.
Dean Gold is a member of the American Law Institute and the author of Bar exam questions on contracts, remedies and evidence in California and Arizona. In addition to CBS News, he has provided legal commentary to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, ABC News, NBC News, CNN and many other outlets.
