Professor Emmick has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Los Angeles U.S. Attorney's Office since 1982. Since 2001 he has served as Special Counsel to the U.S. Attorney. He has held four supervisory positions in the Office, including Chief of the 30-attorney Public Corruption and Government Fraud Section from 1991-97. From 1997-2000, he worked as Associate and then Deputy Independent Counsel in the Clinton-Lewinsky investigation. He has handled a number of high-profile trials, including a seven-month RICO capital trial in 2006 against the leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang; and a five-month civilrights police-corruption trial in 1991 against the Lennox-Southwest Narcotics Crew. Other notable cases he's handled include the real-estate fraud prosecution of the former governor of Arizona, Fife Symington, in 2000-01; the referralfee kickback investigation of Milberg Weiss, the nation's leading securities class action law firm, in 2002-03; and the espionage-related prosecution of Katrina Leung, an accused double-agent who worked for the FBI and the People's Republic of China, in 2003-05.
