Visas

U.S. visitors to Cyprus (both north and south) do not need a visa if staying less than 90 days, but must have a valid passport.

For E.U. passport holders, crossing between the two halves of the island is easy. U.S. citizens and non-E.U. citizens will not have any problems traveling between the two halves as long as they first arrive in Cyprus via the airport in the south (Larnaka). If they get to Cyprus through the northern airport (Ercan, via Istanbul), they will be able to cross south only through the three check-points in Nicosia. They will not be able to cross through the two check points nearest to Famagusta controlled by the U.K. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to plan to arrive to Cyprus via the Larnaka airport. Also, keep in mind that it is not possible to rent cars in the north and drive south but it is possible to do the opposite.
