A Unique Learning and Networking Opportunity
This program is aimed to foster the knowledge of the rules of International Commercial Arbitration, one of the leading ADR methods adopted in transnational litigation. Firms are considerably interested in this practice area, as international arbitration cases become more and more profitable. Recent cases have seen awards for billions of dollars (e.g. the Dow Chemical case, where the company has been awarded with a 2.2 USD billion decision against Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries).
Students will be divided in teams and will work on research and drafting of memoranda for Claimant and Respondent in a simulated arbitration case. After the drafting stage is completed, students will practice their oral arguments and present them before panels of real arbitrators and practitioners.
The program is run in partnership with JAMS, the leading ADR provider in the country. Moot rounds will be held at JAMS’ offices in Downtown Los Angeles. Richard Chernick, Vice President and Managing Director of JAMS’ Arbitration Practice, will be the presiding arbitrator in the final round. Other JAMS neutrals and many other arbitrators and practitioners will attend the rounds as moot arbitrators.
In past years, some of our students received internship offers from leading arbitration institutions, also thanks to the skills and contacts acquired throughout the program. Also, most of our students received offers to seat in Loyola Law School’s teams for prestigious International Commercial Arbitration moots such as the Willem C. Vis Moot and the LAWASIA Moot.
This program is run in partnership with JAMS, the leading ADR provider in the United States.
